Ideal tips to prepare for IBPS PO Reasoning and Computer Aptitude Sections
The digitalization in banking sector has demanded computer awareness. IBPS has felt the importance of “Computer Awareness” and rightfully they have clubbed Reasoning Ability section with Computer Aptitude section in IBPS PO 2019 Mains exam. The syllabus of this section can be followed from IBPS official notification where the examination conducting body has clubbed topics of both the subjects. The section will have 45 questions and will be of 60 marks. The duration of this section will be 1 hour (60 minutes).
The section of Computer Aptitude is newly introduced and questions are based on Binary Number System and Computer Programme Flow Charts. For instance- the questions are based on conversion of numbers from Binary to Numerical System, Binary to Decimal System, and Decimal to Binary, Numerical to binary, etc. The second most important questions are given in the form of a flowchart where a candidate has to solve the question on given information. These are typical questions which can create problems for students and so they should be thoroughly understood and practiced.
The best way to prepare is to learn the basic and concepts of every topic with full understanding. As the topic tests your ability with numbers, the problems based on these topics should be regularly practiced. The remaining question can be asked from topics like History and Generation of Computers, Introduction to Computer Organization, Computer Memory, Computer Hardware and I/O Devices, Computer Software, Computer Languages, Operating System, Computer Network, Internet, MS Office Suit and Short cut keys, Basics of DBMS, Number System and Conversions, Computer and Network Security.
The questions based on Puzzles/Seating Arrangements forms a major part of Reasoning Ability section and so they should be methodically prepared. The students should not get intimidated by the language of the question but should try to figure out the correct arrangement of seating required in the question. You should try to figure out all the possibilities before arriving for the final solution. Do practice these questions regularly.
Syllogism is another important topic where question comes in a form of reasoning where a conclusion is drawn from two or more given or assumed propositions (premises). The students have to deduce the given statements and arrive at a conclusion or check if the conclusion provided agrees with the statements given in the question. The most appropriate way of solving these questions is through Venn Diagram Approach. The questions based on Data Sufficiency tests your logical as well as reasoning ability. You should not calculate the exact result but check out whether the data provided is sufficient enough to solve the question. The students should read the data carefully and then try to analyze which part of information is sufficient enough to solve the question. It can be very time consuming, if you do not understand the logics of the questions and so it is important to understand it first and then try to apply the logics to find the solution.
The question based on Verbal Reasoning comprise of topics like Blood Relations, Direction Based Questions, Order and Ranking and Inequalities. While solving these questions, you should go first through the statements properly and then try to understand what it suggests. Thereafter, you should go through the assumptions and try to analyze if these statements can be assumed as per the information in the statement. It is advisable not to make your assumptions. You can expect 5 to 7 questions from these topics in the exam. Likewise the students can expect 4 to 5 questions from Coding –Decoding topic where updated pattern can be asked in the exam. In last few years, the questions were asked on new patterns and so it’s important to revise all the basic rules of the topic and practice questions based on them. While solving questions, the students are required to identify the particular pattern of the coding in the questions. After identifying the pattern for one word, it becomes easy to solve all the questions.
